Mark Zubia: Los Guys
- LOS GUYS
- For more than a decade Phoenix-based Los Guys have been making their signature brand of rock and roll, wowing audiences with vibrant lives shows and serving up a sweet soundtrack to many a memorable night out. Led by singer/guitarist Mark Zubia, the four-piece has become one of the most beloved roots-rock outfits in Arizona. The group originally began as a kind of loose knit covers outfit playing fabled local watering holes and putting their own spin on blues, country and pop favorites from everyone from the Rolling Stones to Lucinda Williams. Early on, the band provided an escape for Zubia from his main outfit, the critically-acclaimed major-label signed Pistoleros. Yet, over the years, Los Guys has grown into a serious project its own right. In addition to playing literally thousands of gigs, the band has released a live concert collection and two albums, all of which capture their unique blend of musical brawn, windswept melody and goodtime boozy charm. Whatever the event or occasion, Los Guys and their grab bag of great tunes, virtuoso musicianship and electrifying showmanship are the stuff that will have audiences dancing the night away.............................................................................................................................................................. NEW TIMES BEST OF PHOENIX: LOS GUYS BEST LOCAL SUPERGROUP 2008 - Led by singer/guitarist Mark Zubia (Chimeras, Pistoleros, Zubia Brothers), Los Guys provide the perfect medium between drunken dance-party music and straight-up rockin' Americana. The core is the soulful 'n' tough twang of Zubia, the consistency of drummer Gary Smith (Chimeras, Pistoleros, Storyline), the coiling rhythms of bassist Paul Cordone (also of Phoenix funk band Chocolate Fountain), and pianist/organist Tim Rovnak (whose crisp, soloist style is similar to the Rolling Stones' main ivories man, Chuck Leavell). But there are also numerous, notable "guest" members who join Los Guys in the studio and on the stage, including guitarist Josh Kennedy of Black Moods, rock troubadour Shelby James, indie rocker Jim Beach of the Jim Beach band and Scott Andrews of the Pistoleros. - Phoenix New Times, 2008
